Meet Dr. John Hoef

Dr. Hoef a hepatologist in Orange County has served as Director of the Liver Disease Program at the University of California Irvine for over 30 years. He now applies his expertise in managing liver patients outside of UCI. Proper diagnosis is crucial for the effective treatment of liver disease, which encompasses a range of conditions including hepatitis B (HBV), hepatitis C (HCV), non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), non-alcoholic hepatitis (NASH), primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC), autoimmune chronic active hepatitis (ACAH), primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), hemachromatosis, as well as other forms of iron overload and less common liver diseases. Some patients may be affected by multiple causes. Dr. Hoef prioritizes the treatment of chronic hepatitis C and highlights the availability of new antiviral agents that can cure up to 70% of patients.
